About the Project
Prospective students graduated or going to graduate from Electrical and Electronic, Physics, Mechanical or Mechatronic, Material or Applied Science, and Chemistry Departments, or related disciplines with a GPA above 8 out of 10, or 3.5 out of 4.0, or high distinction (HD), or equivalent are invited to apply. However, to be competitive for a scholarship, international students will need to have outstanding GPA rankings within their departments (usually the top 5%, preferably top 2%).
The topic of this PhD project is in the area of innovative solar module research with a focus on developing realistic modelling of current and emerging solar module technologies, including bifacial and tandem solar modules. The models to be developed take into account external environmental influences such as spectral and angular distribution of sunlight, temperature and wind, as well as module and system design parameters, including optimization of individual module components. This project requires motivation for software development with e.g. Python, MATLAB and LTSpice.
The dependence of the models on the various influencing parameters is validated experimentally in our laboratories and outdoor test stands through our state-of-the-art laboratories and our advanced manufacturing and characterisation facilities. Our characterisation facilities include state-of-the-art optical, electrical, and microscopic tools such as spectral goniometer, luminescence spectroscopy and imaging, solar simulator, transmission electron microscopes, focus ion beam tools, etc.
